“Mar Encantado” (“Enchanted Sea'') is a virtual immersive artwork which explores the expressive potential of experimental playful media. “Mar Encantado” is an Android - Google cardboard app, but it is being ported to Oculus Quest 2. The Oculus Quest 2 version is the one I'd like to show that will include audio improvements and more graphical items. It also has a PC Desktop version. “Mar Encantado” has as protagonist the flora and fauna from the Argentinian Sea, specially Patagonia sector. It consists of a journey across the bottom of the sea through forests of algae and passages that transport us to a network where jellyfish, anemones, cnidarians, fish and marine mammals coexist. Its setting is a kind of labyrinth whose arteries explore the existential folds that interconnect us with the web of life, the ecological impact of environmental pollution and an alternative approach to scientific development that links with spirituality and takes up alchemical symbolism. During this journey, different paths lead us to the meditation area: a cosmic centre, a place to become aware of the relationship between the care of the sea, biodiversity and the vitality of terrestrial environments. The project explores the potential of immersive narratives through the inspiration in the crossing of various concepts and cosmovisions coming from Gyula Kosice poetics, and spirituality in art, taking as references poetry, painting and video art by Bill Viola, Remedios Varo and Leopoldo Brizuela. Mar Encantado is set in the Anthropocene, a historical moment marked by an unprecedented ecological crisis in which the impact of anthropogenic extractivist actions is leaving a footprint that severely threatens the integrity of biomes on a global scale.
